and I am the owner of Bowman’s Garage.
I grew up around cars, my Dad was always
working on
cars and he recruited my brothers and I to help out. I have always been observant, I would watch
what they were
doing, anticipate their next move,
grab the right tool, hold the flashlight just
so.
I was fascinated with
the mechanics of cars.
I always knew I wanted to be a technician but the drive to own my shop came
from a horrible
experience with a shop. When I was young my Mom’s van broke down.
It was 2000,
times were hard
for us and money
was scarce. We thought we were fortunate to have broken down right behind a shop. I diagnosed
the car and was
grateful to find it just needed a battery.
I walked over the shop and asked to purchase a
battery and to borrow
a ratchet
so I could install it. I was devastated when they refused to help me. We simply didn’t have the
money needed for
the repair.
After this experience I really dove into automotive mechanics.
I realize that there are costs involved to owning a shop and we need to charge appropriately for what we do so we can stay in business.
